Thorough effective care for autoimmune disorders.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by neuromuscular pain and fatigue. The word fibromyalgia means pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons. According to the latest statistics, about 4 million to 6 million Americans have fibromyalgia, most of them females between 35 and 65. It is often referred to as a syndrome because it is a group of signs and symptoms that occur together.
Legitimate syndromes.

Fibromyalgia was first named as a legitimate syndrome by the American College of Rheumatology in 1990 when they presented their two main criteria for diagnosing it: a history of pain (on both sides of the body, above and below the waist) for at least three months, and pain in at least 11 of 18 tender-point sites lined up symmetrically along the body.

Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS) have been surrounded by controversy for years, however, because those diagnosed present with perfectly normal complete blood tests. And their symptoms are often similar to the symptoms present with lupus, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren’s.

Not in the patient’s head.

Not long ago, it was customary for patients with these syndromes to be told they were imagining their symptoms. It was “all in their heads.” But in 2006, the CDC published findings from a landmark study that documented overwhelming evidence of the existence of CFIDS. The results of this study forced many “old-school” physicians to reevaluate their positions.

The causes of these autoimmune disorders are still unknown despite years of intensive research. Current treatment options include:

  • Modalities to diminish pain & improve sleep
  • Special exercise that stretches muscles & improves aerobic fitness
  • Relaxation techniques to ease muscle tension & anxiety
  • Educational programs to foster understanding & better management of fibromyalgia & CFIDS
  • Nutrition guidance

Hunter Yost, MD, treats many fibromyalgia, CFIDS, lupus, MS, RA and Sjögren’s patients. He uses a series of unique functional medicine-based tests to determine causes and contributing factors.
Complex conditions preferred.

Dr. Yost’s functional medicine training involved the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of complex chronic diseases. Functional medicine is an integrative science-based healthcare approach that treats illness and promotes optimal function by focusing assessment on the biochemically unique aspects of each patient. Treatment is personalized to create a context of healing within the individual’s body and the relational environment in which
they live.

With Dr. Yost, patients with any of these complex autoimmune disorders will find focused personal attention and compassionate, effective care. Dr. Yost uses non-narcotic, noninvasive pain management modalities and special diagnostic tests to assess underlying processes of pain and inflammation.

He does not use narcotics or invasive procedures.

He has successfully reduced pain and symptoms and improved the overall condition for many of his patients with this more holistic approach.

Perhaps he can help you, too, especially if previous treatments have produced unsatisfactory results. Ask him how today.
