How to Lower LDL cholesterol without Medication

There was a medical study in 2003 published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, one of the most prestigious medical journals in the world, which showed that DIET ALONE WORKS AS GOOD AS A STATIN DRUG TO LOWER LDL CHOLESTEROL. Yes I have to shout this because no one heard it the first time.
People in the study had total cholesterol 250-260 mg/dl and LDL cholesterol greater than 160 mg/dl. They were dived into two groups, one group took a statin drug called Lovastatin (Mevacor). The other group followed a plant based diet with soluble fiber such as oats, psyllium, barley, black beans and foods containing plant sterols that also lower cholesterol such as almonds, soy, and margarine with plant sterols. After just 30 days, the diet lowered LDL 28.6%, and the drug lowered it by 30.9%. This is considered to be a statistical dead heat.
The study was sponsored by the Canadian Almond Growers Association who does not advertize on American TV. How many Americans would believe that diet would work as well as a statin drug to lower LDL? Very few because no one has heard this on TV. I would really like to hear a new tag line that says, “Ask your doctor if a plant based diet to lower your LDL cholesterol is right for you”.
